POSITION DESCRIPTION

The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine, Department of Urology
(https://urology.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence within the faculty, staff, and student body. We are seeking an outstanding recruit in Pediatric Urology to join a large, collaborative group practice of urologists within a nationally recognized academic health system.

This position will be a member of a comprehensive Pediatric Urology program, including management of a diverse and complex patient population drawn from a large regional referral base. The role will also involve managing a diverse patient population coming from a large referral area and practice and coverage at Rady Children's Hospital. The successful candidate will teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows, and will foster excellence in clinical care, education, and research.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s background and experience.

Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.

(https://urology.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence within the faculty, staff, and student body and is seeking a benign urology translational researcher to serve as the Vice Chair of Basic & Translational Research. The Department of Urology seeks an established investigator capable of leading impactful research initiatives and elevating the department’s national profile.

The Vice Chair of Basic & Translational Research will coordinate research in the Genitourinary Microbiome across a broad range of urological conditions, including nephrolithiasis, urinary incontinence and prolapse, stricture disease, male infertility, prosthetics & biofilm, and genitourinary oncology. In addition, they will foster collaboration across departments and disciplines (including SIO, engineering, and data sciences). They will work closely with the Microbiome Institute and the Vice Chair of Clinical Research to translate innovation to bedside applications, develop a core research curriculum for trainees, teach, and provide ongoing research didactics. The successful candidate will establish and maintain independent peer-reviewed funding, accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical practice, and mentor faculty and trainees to support their submissions as Principal Investigator for peer-reviewed funding.

The appointment will be based on the candidate’s background and experience. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence (with secured extramural funding) or 100% Ladder Rank.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have an MD/PhD or equivalent, or a PhD in Biology, Microbiology, or a relevant discipline.

Candidates must have a minimum of 4 years of experience leading a research laboratory with a focus on the Microbiome.

Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in urological research, including collaborative work in bioengineering and biofilm.

Candidates must have a track record of 2+ years of experience leading a clinical, translational, and/or basic research program, including an independent, extramurally funded research program (e.g., NIH R01 or equivalent).

The successful candidates will work closely with medical oncology, radiation oncology, and other specialties to deliver comprehensive, team-based cancer care. The successful candidates will also participate in the teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows, and engage in scholarly activity aligned with the advancement of urologic oncology. The successful candidates will also participate in the teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows, and engage in scholarly activity aligned with the advancement of endourology and surgical innovation. We are seeking an outstanding academic leader to serve as Chief of Pediatric Urology and join a large, collaborative group practice of urologists within a nationally recognized academic health system.

The role will involve leading and advancing a comprehensive Pediatric Urology program, including management of a diverse and complex patient population drawn from a large regional referral base. The role will also involve managing a diverse patient population coming from a large referral area and practice and coverage at Rady Children's Hospital. The successful candidate will play a central role in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows, and will be expected to foster excellence in clinical care, education, and research.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s background and experience. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.
