Prostate Cancer Treated Differently at County vs Private Hospitals
A new study headed by UCSD's Dr. J. Kellogg Parsons finds that treatment decisions among economically disadvantaged men with prostate cancer are related to the type of facility where they are treated. Patients at private hospitals were found to be two and half times more likely than those at county hospitals to receive radiation therapy and four and a half times more likely to initially receive hormone therapy instead of surgery. The study is scheculed for online publication on January 25 by the journal Cancer.
