The UCSD Division of Urology was founded in 1968 and continues to offer the only urology training program in the region. As a leader in research and patient care, we are committed to providing the latest in expert and compassionate treatment, performing cutting-edge research, and training the next generation of top urologists. We are currently ranked among America's best hospitals in the field of Urology by U.S. News & World Report.
UCSD is a young institution but it has quickly become one of the most successful scientific universities in the world. In collaboration with the UCSD Medical Center and School of Medicine, the Division of Urology’s new strategic focus is clinical excellence. With research programs that command international respect and consistently rank among the top 20 in NIH funding, we are well positioned to elevate our clinical programs to the same world-class status. Our surgeons are skilled in the full range of urologic surgical procedures, from the latest minimally invasive techniques, including robotic prostatectomy, to extensive reconstructive surgeries for genitourinary cancers and trauma. Our debut on the specialty rankings of U.S. News & World Report this year marks the successful launch of our new initiative.
The Division’s clinical and research facilities, divided among three locations, serve a broad mix of patients over a 9,000 square mile area. The UCSD Medical Center and University Hospital are located in the central city area of San Diego; the John and Rebecca Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center is located approximately twelve miles north in La Jolla; and the John M. and Sally B. Thornton Hospital is adjacent to the Cancer Center. Please visit our Procedures page for information about the special services, procedures, and treatments we offer.
